Revisions go official. 13:13 2009-05-11
I have decided to make the item layout revisions offical. I haven't recieved any feedback on the latest revision yet but it included things that people wanted to see changed and I liked the changes myself while playtesting against bots so I think it's safe to make the changes permanent.

The reason for the rush is that I was approached by thelawenforcer asking if I wanted to contribute with my maps to the Warsow Community Mappack. Since the revisions themselves were not 100% fit for public release I cleaned Rev2 up a bit so it could replace the official release.

Item Layout Revision II 23:30 2009-05-04

Yet another layout revision released! Would have finished and uploaded it earlier but I've been busy with other things. The main changes are the addition of another Yellow Armor and a Machine Gun weapon & ammo spawn for v0.5 of Warsow.

I moved the Lasergun spawn to make way for the Yellow Armor because the old Laser Gun location felt like the most natural location for some Armor. There is also another Grenade Launcher in the RA room now and some additional small health orbs and armor shards near that area.

This is an unofficial release at this moment and is only meant to be used in play testing. If it turns out that these changes are for the better I will eventually replace the official version with this one.

Item Layout Revision 20:00 2009-05-01

The "Final" release of this level stirred up quite a discussion about everything from item placement to general optimization. So I decided to release a revision of the item layout to help fuel the discussion and let people try out some of the changes they are suggesting.

This is an unofficial release at this moment and is only meant to be used in play testing. If it turns out that these changes are for the better I will replace the official version with this one.

Finally finished! 22:30 2009-04-29

Yes, it's true. My third Warsow level is done! I'll use this last development history entry to rant about how I got delayed.

I was hoping to finish this project before the end of -08 but some untimely illnesses and a lot of real life work (the money-making kind) got in the way of my progress. I eventually managed to pull myself together however and this is the final result.

A lot(!) has happened since the release of Beta 3, namely it has become pretty. I took the plunge into the world of bump mapping and spectacular specularity, and I'm rather pleased with the result myself. There are still a few kinks and I could probably spend another month just tweaking every last detail. But enough will just have to be enough and it's time to move on to something new and different.

Happy Birthday New Left 4 Dead Experience. 19:15 2008-11-28

Anyone who might check my website regularly will have noticed the slight lag in the release of Beta 3. Well here it is, finally!

The unfortunate timing of Left 4 Dead being released along with the "New Xbox Experience" patch has severely hampered my productivity. Any free time has been spent either slaughtering Zombies or replaying all my Xbox 360 games in glorious 16:10 aspect ratio resolutions on my monitor. On top of everything I turned 23 on the 22nd so life has been crazy in general.

As with Beta 1 I didn't get much feedback on any aspect of the level during Beta 2. Which either means it is perfect or that nobody cares. Either way I have decided to end the Beta and start working on the final release. I'm aiming for a release within two weeks, but I recently got a job sorting christmas cards at the post office so the release might be postponed slightly.

I managed to change a few things though, to warrant the release of a new Beta version. I replaced one of the elevators with a ramp/tunnel which I believe improved the flow when running through that section. I also modified the Laser Gun room to make it more interesting. Some item placement tweaking was made as well.

In any case I hope to get some feedback on this last beta version so I can incorporate any changes before the final release.

Beta 2? 16:00 2008-11-07

Week two into my third project and a new release is due. The observant may have noticed that I have changed my version numbering system. My old system relied on releasing 10 seperate versions to get to the final version, and with my goal to cut down development time that approach was not ideal.

Instead I am now releasing an unspecified number of Beta releases until I feel that the project is going in the right direction. When the level is balanced and tweaked to perfection I will do a final crunch to create the final release of the level.

As I didn't get much feedback from the first release, most likely due to my odd release date, I didn't have much to take into consideration for Beta 2. I did however have a few ideas of myself. I did some tweaking of item placement while also as adding a lot of armor shards and health orbs all over the level. A teleporter was also added , creating a new path between two locations. I'm hoping for some educated feedback on these changes.

Beta 1 23:00 2008-11-02

Well here it is, project number three. While working on lade-wswca1 I got some feedback regarding peoples wishes for more TDM/1on1 maps. I considered remaking lade-wswca1 with items for a while but I decided it was time to move on and create something brand new.

I spent a couple of hours brainstorming in Google Sketchup, and this is what I came up with. When I was satisfied I remade the geometry in gtkRadiant and tossed in some weapons, light entities and spawn locations.

Nothing is considered final at the moment. I'm looking for player input on the layout, item placement and everything in-between. I envisioned this to be a level best suited for Team Deathmatch, but playtesting and player input will help determine which gametype works best. There are navigation files for bots included in this release so simply type g_numbots [desired number of bots] in the console to play against computer controlled opponents.
