What the hell is this?
Well, I have thought about getting a Blog on my website for quite some time. My Project updates have become increasingly littered with personal stuff and that's not what they are for. So I thought having some place to type in random thoughts and ideas would be a good idea.
At first I thought it would be very convenient to take some existing blog software somewhere and just customize it to look like my website and integrate it accordingly. That turned out to be much more of a pain in the a-hole than I had originally imagined. Most Blogs have a gazzillion unneccesary features that I have no use for whatsoever. I just wanted a nice little white box to type text into and hit "submit" every now and then with.
So I abandoned that idea and started looking for some news posting or commenting scripts. As I was struggling with getting CuteNews to look and behave like I wanted it to I realised how easy it would be to just continue doing what I have been doing in my Project pages all this time; doing everything manually in a HTML document!
So this is the result of that decision. About as bare-bone as a Blog gets. At least I incorporated a neat click-to-hide feature to avoid clutter. Time will tell how efficient this method is going to be. In any case I will probably end up doing some more significant upgrades at some point in the future. This solution will probably hold up and keep me satisfied until then.
Why call it "Weblog" and not "Blog" then? Well, I never liked the term Blog to begin with (it just sounds stupid), and "Blog" in itself is quite short and didn't look very nice on the navigation button there to the left. But I talk more about the site design in my second "Weblog"-entry.
